AI Model Naming: A Field Guide to the Naming and what Quants actually are.

As I've been working with Strata Inference, my interest in the naming convention peaked, and I've had a few people ask me why the naming convention is different than the other models. Strata itself doesn't 'quantize' anything. It's an inference engine, designed for only one…

Strata on 3× RTX 5060 Ti: precision doesn't predict speed. I measured five quants and found out why.

A follow-up to my 125B-on-consumer-hardware study. The short version: the equation from that post still holds. I also found the places where it doesn't. So my last post ended with a law: tok/s = (bandwidth ÷ bytes-per-token) × tokens-per-pass Residual 1.0000× across three queue…

How Far Can a Home Lab AI Rig Get Toward Frontier Inference?

This is a measurement study on consumer hardware, with the method published alongside the result. I wasn't finding a ton out about inference optimization on setups like mine. So I decided to take the opportunity as an excuse to make a small upgrade and take measurements on the…

Project: RAM Sled - The Trash GPU

Project: RAM Sled - The Trash GPU Core Idea: Build a fake GPU that is not a GPU. It's a sled that fits where a GPU fits, holds 8-16 sticks of e-waste DDR2/DDR3, does AI math inside the RAM itself using triple-row activation, and tricks the OS into thinking it's a GPU. Form…

Stop Reviewing Code: The Next Generation Won't Write It. They'll Context It.

Code Review As We Knew It Is Over Not because kids are lazy. Because we're watching computers get reinvented. Agentic coding didn't just change code review. It changed what it means to build, who gets to build, and what "source code" even is. If you want to understand why the…

Vibe Code vs Agentic Engineering

VIBE CODE VS AGENTIC ENGINEERING The Tool Literacy Problem Let's be honest - the Vibe Coding discourse right now is a mess. You've got bot accounts and media rings dunking on it like it's the latest crypto scam, and everyone's got a hot take about how AI coding is 'ruining…

Where is IBM? The End of The Electronic Golden Age

Prelude (The tech arch from the past) Consumer tech feels more restrictive than it did 30 years ago, and it's not just nostalgia. We had it all - Circuit City, Best Buy , RadioShack, Micro Center , and a hundred local shops. You didn't just pick your PC, you picked every part…

My top 10 AI harnesses, and why they are contenders

An AI harness is the scaffolding around a model. It’s the shop floor where the work actually happens. It gives you control, safety, reproducibility, cost management, and customization without rewriting the model itself. I use harnesses to test ideas fast, keep experiments…

A list of site upgrades to make.

So this list is designed to help me track inconsistencies, bugs, changes I'd like to see on this site. 1. "drafts" When i create a new post, if i click off the 'new post' page, the post is gone. We need a way to create an auto save without publishing the post to the feed. so a…

Frontier Betrayal: The Ultimate Con Job

How "Unlimited for $20" became "Pay More for Less" — and why the hardware to escape it costs a fortune. We let a subscription business model steal an ownership revolution. And we're letting the origin label on the best open models distract us from that theft. Almost all of us…

Coding Workflow for Average Joes

Every time I start a project, I run into the same issue . I know what i want to build, but I can't describe it very well. I have a vision in my head of what it is I'm trying to make, but it's not clear. I am usually so focused on trying to get what's in my vision on paper before…

Agentic AI Is the New Promise. The Old One Didn’t Arrive

As agentic workflows take center stage — AI that can click, file, book, and chain tasks together — it sounds almost perverse to ask whether “AI” is already yesterday’s news. Look closer, though, and the pattern is familiar. There is a useful distinction that keeps getting…

Strange New World: Web 2.0 Atrophy

Strange New World Let's talk about something that isn't readily mentioned on here. Something that forces you to re-evaluate where society actually is with tech. Let's look at the side that is being left behind by tech. In the world today we have a very large push toward a…

The $5,000 Camera Lesson Every Developer Needs to Learn in 2026

You saw the post: "My camera cost $5,000 and y'all want to shoot for $100-$300, this is not a hobby" And the perfect reply: "My Uber driver's car cost $40,000. He drove me home for $12." That's not just photography. That's the entire freelance economy right now. Welcome to the…
